In the previous episode, – David obediently sold their mobile home out from under pregnant Leslie, in the face of “the worst thing possible.”
Not only was the timing of the mobile home sale ironic, the change in location to Hampton, within ten days of Leslie’s due date, was a special reward of its own. Leslie dreaded a birth and delivery at the Navy’s OB/GYN pre-civil-war facilities, saying it was the last place on Earth that she wanted to suffer childbirth. She was doomed to her worse-case-scenario unless set free by a change in domicile.
With the house closing date ten days before her due date, Leslie’s new residence permitted an appointment with a nurse-midwife at the Langley Air Force Base Hospital. Going into labor on the afternoon of May 24th, David and Leslie had a no-hurry, 5.1 mile, trip from their driveway to the Hospital parking lot. Bethany was born in a modern facility, and delivered by the world’s best nurse-midwife (in their opinion). David’s accurately forecasted, but misdiagnosed worst case scenario, produced Leslie and Bethany’s best-case-scenario. The Perfect Irony.
Firewood and Cheetos shows that the Carmichaels’ life of faith, obedience, sacrifice, and supernatural salvation had just begun.
